Legal Practitioner Roles

Due to funding success, ATSILS is offering several Criminal Law opportunities in our fastest-growing regional offices. For our Rockhampton team, an all-rounder (Crime, Family & Civil Laws) is required. Please apply individually to each Vacancy for which you wish to be interviewed.
* All interviews will be conducted in both Brisbane and the relevant regional office within 2-3 weeks of the closing date.
* Commencement within 5 weeks of an interview to the successful candidate is planned (but negotiable).
* Our Beenleigh/Ipswich vacancy has some flexibility of location – it is possible we could negotiate hours and locations – similarly for Toowoomba. Please discuss this in your application at Step 4.
* All other vacancies are for candidates with, ideally, two years’ post-admission experience. If you have less experience than two years but court experience, you are still encouraged to apply.

Legal Practitioner - Family & Civil Law | Toowoomba | Full Time | Closes Midnight Sunday 2 July 2017

Our Toowoomba Region supports many communities from St George in the south west to Chinchila in the North. This role presents genuine opportunity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families across much of the Darling Downs Queensland, working within a team and using a distinct degree of discretion and autonomy.

A skilled advocate capable of working without weekly supervision after the induction time-frame is ideal. Newcomers with less than 1 year’s PAE with sufficient advocacy and case work skill are welcome to apply.

Your experience with Family Law casework and court acumen, plus Civil Law casework will be highly regarded. An interest in developing skills in Child Protection matters will be well rewarded. Your commitment to social justice and the sudden demands for your peers may also provide minor criminal law work – eg. Duty Lawyer matters in domestic violence/juvenile matters.
About You: A resilient, dedicated and organised practitioner who can commence before the end of June will see significant capacity to work in an organised, team-spirited manner. You will enjoy remote online communications to access our free CPD programme, stay in touch with the Statewide team as you develop your career.

Interviews will be held after 6th July in Brisbane and in Toowoomba.

Legal Practitioner - Criminal Law | Cairns | Full Time | Closes Midnight Sunday 2 July

Our Cairns Office seeks a skilled Legal Practitioner in Criminal Law. We will interview mid July and look to candidates who can commence within five weeks of interview.

Ideally you will have 2 -3 years’ PAE full-time experience, but those with less are welcome to apply if you have demonstrated advocacy skills and a fast learning pace. Your experience with both duty lawyer type responsibilities and hearings will be a distinct advantage. We welcome those with capacity to work in an organised, team-spirited manner.

Legal Practitioner - Criminal Law | Townsville | Full Time | Closes Midnight Sunday 16 July 2017

Our Townsville Office seeks a skilled Legal Practitioner in Criminal Law with the possibility of expanding into Circuit work attending at Bowen, Ayr and Palm Island. The frequent in-house professional development will also support your career in Defence Law. We will interview at the end of July and look to candidates who can commence within seven weeks of interview.

Ideally you will have at least three years’ PAE full-time experience, but those with less are welcome to apply if you have demonstrated advocacy skills and a fast learning pace. Your experience with both duty lawyer type responsibilities and hearings will be a distinct advantage. We welcome those with capacity to work in an organised, team-spirited manner. Court Support Officers provide extensive service to this role and know our communities well.

Court Support Officer | Beenleigh | Full-Time | closing Sunday 25 June 2017 midnight

Join our growing team at Beenleigh to support our Legal Practitioners and administrative staff member in Criminal Law. You need a driver licence, willingness to be “on-call” on a rostered basis as we provide a 24/7 service, and drive our car when on-call. You also will have good references, ability to think very quickly on your feet, good local knowledge, and a demonstrated commitment to our vision and values. A prompt start is ideal.
